(in Japan) the abnormal avoidance of social contact, typically by adolescent males.
a person who avoids social contact.
I'm curious to know how many of you are, like me, total shut-ins who never leave the house. I graduated high school last year and since then my agoraphobia and social anxieties have made it extremely difficult for me to go outside, find a job, go to school, and make friends. I don't really like living this kind of life but the alternative scares me shitless. I've always been this way, but since it's no longer legally required for me to leave the house I simply...don't. My parents and grandmother (who lives with us) aren't really sure what to make of it so they leave me alone. I don't leave my room more than twice a day (the bathroom is connected to my room) and I don't leave the house more than once a week.
So what about you guys? Any hikikomori out there? How do you guys live? Are you guys NEETs or do you study/work from home? I'm curious to know how you guys live and how you cope with your situation.
