Weekly Math Challenge #1
Introduction
Many of you probably know the reason we have to do math, that well never use, in school. If you don't, the reason is that it challenges us and exercises our brain. Usually though, once we finish school we don't do much to exercise our mind that much. So I've decided to start making weekly math problems to exercise the minds of the great AF. Now you may be thinking, "I hate math, prepare for a hateful post." If that's you then to bad, these problems won't even be that hard and I'll provide the answer. So let's get started with the lesson.

Basic Algebra
In this lesson I'm going to teach basic Algebra. If you still remember this from your school days then skip down to the next section. I'm going to assume that you understand basic arithmetic. In Algebra we have what we call variables. These are letters that act as place holders for unknown numbers. When you see a problem with a variable in it we call it a statement. For example: "x + 3". We do not know the value of "x" but we know we have to add it by 3. We can even multiply these variables by each other or like numbers: "3x + 12", "xy - 82". In our first example we have the value of "x" added to its self 3 times. You should know that would mean we'd take "x" and multiply it by 3. In the second example we take "x" and multiply it by "y". But wait! There isn't a multiplication sign. Well welcome to Algebra. Now lets figure out how to find the value of "x".

This is what we call an equation: "2x + 3 = 9". We add an equal sign and give a value to our statement. To solve this we have to isolate the variable. To do this we have to modify each side equally. This is best represented by an example. So lets take our equation and subtract 3 from each side to get: "2x = 6". Now we have to decide each side by 2 and get: "x = 3". See how simple that was? Though there is a certain order this must be done in. I've always been taught "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally". The bolded letters stand for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiply, Divided, Add, Subtract. This is the order your algebra must go, otherwise you will get the wrong answer. I have not covered what parentheses are though. They are simply put: (A part of the math you work out first). Now you should be able to put your skills to the test.

Applications
1.) 13x - 12 = 79
Spoiler:
x = 7
2.) 5y/2 = 50
Spoiler:
y = 5
3.) 7 - 2x = 25
Spoiler:
x = -9
4.) 36 - 2 * 6 =
Spoiler:
204
5.) 2( 5 + 8 ) + 24x / 4 = 26
Spoiler:
x = 4.3 cont

I'm starting off easy, next week I'm planning harder algebra. Trig will be after I've covered algebra 2, which wont be for awhile.
