You people obviously haven't been active within forums with shotboxes. They do not decrease activity at all, and just allow for general chit chat. Not all people use skype due to the fact it will take time and effort to download and boot up a program. whereas a small area within a website is easy to access

That's true. chatboxe's don't even decrease the forum activity.
Admins just think that because maybe a few people said that.
If you really want to test if it decreases activity, do a trial run.
Record how post with a chatbox for a week and without.

They may add one soon or now.
But the problem is it's using big space of the website.
