[Velocity] Guide To Debate #1

Hello, DB community. I am posting this thread to help organize debates in this section, and being Velocity's strong-points is Debate, why not help pave the way for more high quality debates! Let's get started with some basic requirements to start up a debate.

Along with that rule is common sense, do NOT debate something that you have no knowledge in. Within the debate, do NOT change the topic because you can't hold up a valid argument; all that shows is immaturity and ignorance.

This is probably the most important rule that I couldn't stress enough. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Do not just read about what you want to hear and disregard the other facts. You must understand where the opposite debater is coming from as long as it's backed up with facts. Debates within this section should be a war of facts being thrown back and fourth with a splash of opinions here and there. It is not a debate if no one has facts and all they have are opinions.

Simple, whatever topic you deem as controversial. Pretty much every topic that has multiple views on it is controversial and can spark up a friendly debate. A key part to picking a topic to stir a friendly conflict is picking something that includes morals.

Ignore. I italicized "friendly" in this thread multiple times for a reason. Debates should be pure fun and nothing rude should come out of anyones mouth, if that was to happen it would not be a debate anymore, it would be a flamewar. A flame war is when one or both sides proceed to make rude and mean remarks towards each other. This happens most often in the event of a person realizing he/she is wrong or just in hopes of becoming a troll. A troll is a key part in most flame wars. A troll's only objective is to upset people to see a reaction. If you suspect someone to be a troll, do NOT debate with them. You will never win.

You can't do anything, just ignore the post. You replying to the post is only going to make things worse.

Yes, but the information given in this thread will guide you to making your first successful debate. Future knowledge regarding debate will be gained from your own personal experiences.
