Anyone got a good recommendation for a starter "kit"? I've used disposables a couple of times, would like to try something a little more "refined".

Well, if you've smoked tobacco, stay away from the cigalikes.
You can get a starter kit that I think is pretty much everyone's universal starter type, the eGo type batteries with a simple tank, or you can skip the slight waste if it's something you can see yourself doing more long term and go for actual mods.

Today I bought a Kangertech Subox starter kit, the black edition, at a local shop. Atm I'm running it with a 1.5 coil on 15w setting, which is fairly low, but for restarting, I'm enjoying it.
The thing does come with a subohm coil and goes to 50w, as well as a RBA kit as well, so all around it's pretty handy for a general start, but does require batteries. I have some 35a rechargeable batteries in it, which is optimal.

Honestly, I don't know if it's going to pan out into something more serious. I usually just do it for fun on occasion. I've seen some crazy mods, but I don't think I'll use it enough to warrant that.

Keep away from mechanical mods until you are absolutely comfortable with all aspects of your regulated one, if you get serious. Even as something for fun, to get the big clouds, beautiful tastes, and quality vape, going for a higher end device will always get you a better experience than the $30 starter kits at a local vape shop.

Yeah, I have tried a good mod before, and it's worlds above anything disposable/cheap. I just simply don't have the money to spend on this hobby to make it perfect if it's just going to be occasional. Have you ever tried making your own juice, or know anyone who does? I figure that's probably a good way of keeping cost down.

I personally don't, as I use nicotine in mine, and with my shaky hands, that's dangerous. However, I have friends who do, and they say its fun to experiment with different flavours, and is fairly cheaper than buying out of a shop once you actually get started. You just have to make sure you follow instructions on how to do it, otherwise you could end up with an absolute mess that may end up breaking your ecig.

Nowadays there are starter kits that are pretty decent. If you go to your local smoke shop they can probably recommend you a decent kit. I don't recommend mechanical mods for the average user, as there's no point. As mentioned, I recommend the starter kit I posted. I've been using it a couple weeks and it's pretty decent.

It was a really good kit, NEVER had issues with it until I quit using it and it sat in my hot car for 6 months and melted the seals.

That's the thing. You really need to be careful where you store vaporizers. Particularly nasty things can happen if you leave them somewhere too hot.

Well, I simply stopped caring about mine....I couldn't actually make the switch from cigarettes to vapes back then.
