First thing first - I'd like to thank @Rikka for accepting me in the Writers team. I'll try prove me that I'm worthy enough to keep this status.

Almoust a month ago Valve confirmed working on competitive TF2 *finally* and the beta group is now open. 

Matchmaking was brought up in a visit to Valve HQ by the community at teamfortress.tv in April last year. To their surprise, Valve was right onboard with the idea, but this is the first official confirmation of impending change.

As to the group, Valve says it'll "be using this group to send out announcements related to the competitive beta as well as seed beta invites for the expansion of the closed beta".

"Our plan is to start small and increase participation as we go," the TF2 team says. "For this initial phase of testing - which will begin in the next week or so - we'll be gradually granting random members from this group an in-game item called a Competitive Matchmaking Beta Pass. Once you've been granted a pass you will have ongoing access to the beta. "

There are lot's of sceptical comments and posts in the TF2 competitive STEAM group like "Matchmaking is going to kill TF2!" and "Why this game is not ready for competitive"

Whether they randomly select you for stress testing or grant you a pass, they will prioritize group members that meet the following requirements:

*Have either purchased a copy of Team Fortress 2 prior to June 23, 2011, or have made a purchase from the Mann Co. Store. (AKA premium accounts)

*Have Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator enabled.

*Have a phone number associated with your Steam account

There are rumours, but no official information about ranks. I'll keep following this and I'll write if something new pops out.
