Disabling "Get Windows 10" notifications #1
While the updates are annoying as fuck, 10 isn't too bad. If you're still on 7, I can see why you're debating the switch, but if you've moved to 8 or 8.1, update immediately, it's far less buggy and shitty.

Anyway, there's a few ways to disable the updates in lieu of the x button.

Registry Entry

Just save the code below to something like disable10notif.reg and run it
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Gwx] "DisableGwx"=dword:00000001

Uninstall update KB3035583

Update KB3035583 is the update that introduced GWX.exe (aka the notification program for Win10). It can be uninstalled by using the following command in your prompt:
Code:
wusa /Uninstall /KB:3035583

After doing this, you may still have remnants of the update on your system, so run the below command (with admin privileges) to get rid of it
Code:
rmdir %windir%\System32\GWX /s /q

3rd Party Tool (ew)

Download and run I don't want Windows 10 from github.

That's why I always format my systems with my custom OS (get rid of the OEM trash and bloatware), and disable the Windows Update service thereafter. No notifications whatsoever are experienced.

I must say, this Is an excellent and very easy to follow tutorial. Given the Registry Is Involved, prior to making any changes, I strongly advise to back It up using It's "Export" feature. Any Incorrect edit (no matter how small) particularly critical keys and/or values, may cause significant system Instability and/or loss of OS functionality.

Good work @emilia, a wonderful contribution Indeed.

I've personally used this tutorial on Windows 7 and it works well. Takes a bit of time to finish but now I never get bothered by Windows 10 again.

or just wait a month and a bit until they stop offering it.
