I don't personally have any issues reading the text, as there's more than a 30% difference between the colors we use for background and text. If there's a huge preference maybe.

I'm also fine with using what we have. It is something I've just noticed a few times. I noticed it more when adding really colourful images to threads as it makes the text look more dull, but it's never been unreadable to me. See what people think I guess, yeah.
