Wow, I remember this. I use to draw it back in grade school. People use to think they're cool for knowing how to draw it.

The SD's(saint disciples) use that here in Chicago. It probably has some history since it could be seen as an 8 or on its side it makes an infinity symbol. The strange part is how so many people seem to draw the same things when they doodle. It could be that's its just simple to draw or maybe its a subliminal neurological memorandum.

SD is Satan's Disciples in Chicago, last I was there. And they tend to tag with the infinity sign, as you said.
As for this symbols origins, it's been reported that it goes back as far as the 70s.

Yeah, I remember just being able to draw this would get you laid. But yeah, I've read that it's been drawn since the '70s.
