In my views, they both serve a similar objective- with the only difference being a different form of appreciation.

In terms of the name Itself, I prefer the latter being "Like".

I like the thanks button. It is more like an achievement than a the like button would be. Some of the people (including me) spammed the like button pretty often. Maybe now it will have more value.

Is it possible to turn off alerts for received likes? That's annoying.

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a way to do that. However, I would recommend making a suggestion thread for it. Maybe Oni can implement it.
