Enter your command I take it you are telneting into a website as you are connecting on port 80? the blinking cursor means you are connected to the server and is waiting for a request

Bro, I think you got the wrong port
The default port for telnet is 23
80 is for http server.

But are you trying to port scan?
This is a simple old-school method of port scan.
By connecting a port with telnet shows you if the port is open or not.
In you case, (open a new prompt and it blink cursor for a while and stop) means that the port is open.

I hope I helped you. Wink

No... this is not an old school method of port scanning. At its basic its checking to see if the port is accepting requests and for the moderately more advanced, banner grabbing. a telnet client has no ability to "scan".

As for telnet, it does allow you to issue raw commands to some services that accept. for example, if after youve connected to a webserver, you can issue a command like GET / HTTP/1.1 and hit enter twice which will retrieve if i recall both the webpage html and the response headers.
