TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) #1
Quote:Kiss your freedom goodbye:
"The agreement also regulates the internet and requires internet companies to gather certain data which they will be required to share with certain private companies. Many of the provisions will not only be secret before the vote in the House, but will also be kept secret for four years after the bill is signed. That means we won’t know what’s in it even after it’s passed."
THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S IN THE LAW FOR FOUR YEARS AFTER IT'S PASSED.

Wikileaks has gotten their hands on a copy of Obama’s phony TPP trade bill. It contains 29 chapters but only 5 pertain to trade. Wikileaks will be publishing the entire bill and they have already released the chapter on Investment. It’s very interesting. It is written in a such a way as to give multinational companies a huge advantage on trade. If a public hospital is built close to a private one, the private hospital has the right to sue the country for expected losses.

Wow, that sucks. What international implications does this have?

Edit: Wait, wtf. Private companies are able to sue the public sector for losses? That's retarded. I mean, what possible benefit is there? What would they get out of it that'd convince them to make the deal. The government I mean.

The US gov is often bought and paid for by big business donors. I haven't read this thing so I don't know the full implications, but it wouldn't be the first time there was some back office dealings that end up benefiting private corporations and causing massive profits.

Give government the ability to rule in the private sector and it gains the ability to give favors.

Can we stop it? I mean, we've stopped SOPA.

We've already had our fair share of retarded politicians making retarded deals.

The only ones trying to defeat the TPP where "far left" liberals in the senate (Bernie Sanders/Elizebeth Warren) and libertarians (Rand Paul) who aren't bought out by big business. It makes sense however, that the democratic president and republican house and senate supported and passed the TPP, as they are all in the hands of lobbyists. The influence of money shows no partisanship.

This is why Citizens United needs to be overturned. It is clear that the influence of Money and big business in politics has gone too far and is severely poisoning our nation's legislation process.

Update:
Quote:President Barack Obama signed a bill giving him "fast-track" powers to conduct and conclude trade legislation. The bill was approved by Congress last week after months of contentious debate and several difficult votes.

In addition to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA), as the fast-track bill is officially called, the president signed the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) act, extending aid to US workers who might lose their jobs as a consequence of free-trade deals.
