I think it's a nice idea, but probably not necessary.

The people that gravedig in a negative manner, are generally dumb or silly enough to tick the box anyways.

If you think that, then why do we have the dark box that tells us about the last time someone posted was over 90 days ago? For one, it is so hidden that it is really hard to see it. Second part, if we actually add the box then it would be harder to say stuff like "I didn't see it", and therefor the people that does it would get more easily punished for their wrong doing.

They don't have to know a rule exists to be punished for breaking said rule.
It is their responsibility to know the rules and pay attention.

I like this suggestion.

There's been countless times (unbeknown to a given member who apologized at a later time), that a reply to a very old post was made, therefore classed as grave digging. Something to this effect stating that a thread has exceeded the grave digging limit, would certainly serve It's purpose well.

Why not just have something saying "this thread is over *1 month, 1 week, depends where you want to limit it* old. Please refrain from posting unless you have something important" or something like that? So people could at least see something before grave digging

However I understand that someone might not like the checkbox so I suggested that we also add a setting for turning off the checkbox.

That would certainly help, but I personally would prefer to have a checkbox.
