Sony WhiteMagic - RGBW - phone display under a microscope [Video] #1
Hi there!
Today (at the time of writing this) I had an access to a medical microscope and I decided to look at various things under a large magnification, one of them were mobile phone displays.

Since it's quite interesting, I decided to film it and I would like to share the recording with you. First I show display of my phone, which uses Super AMOLED technology and has three subpixels per pixel - classic RGB.

The second one is however new Sony's display that they call WhiteMagic, where they added a white pixel to the classic RGB trio, which they claim that helps to improve the display readability especially when used outside, because the white sub-pixel helps to "overshine" the daylight, so you can see the display better and clearer, which from my experience works quite well (it's very well readable outside).

In this video, you can see the structure of both displays, under a microscope. It's a quickly made video, but hopefully you'll like it at least a little bit :3

From what I can gather they are one and the same except the Sony has that extra white pixel which I guess would make the display that little bit sharper, more to the point where did you acquire that microscope lol?

chmod: Can you actually read my post please? Then you would find out that I haven't really acquired the microscope and that the reason for while pixel is not display sharpness...

LiveFaster: Difficult to say. Personally I like the Super AMOLED better, because it has very nice colors and it's still quite readable outside, but the Sony WhiteMagic is maybe a bit better in this regard. I haven't done any tests to thoroughly compare them though.
