Social media pages

Have social media accounts ever been considered to widen our reach? I don't know how well Facebook would work, given lots of members are worried about their personal info (and rightfully so), but Twitter would be super easy. Hell, Lunar could probably take care of it given it's media-related. Thoughts?

Facebook is a bad idea. We have a Twitter account, but I never use it, really. If people are interested in me using the Twitter account again, I'll consider. It would be useful for posting status updates and whatnot.

For sure. Announcements, HQ threads, events; there's probably a MyBB plugin that automates it out there somewhere.

I second this. I have been a professional meme page administrator for a good year or two and am respected in the industry. I am sure many other SL members are up there in the pyramid. (I actually think this is a terrible idea, but a fun one.)

Instagram is fathered under FB now and I feel like @Oni 's distaste for Facebook probably includes the use of Instagram for this. Twitter is a good idea I think, I've visited it every once in a while to see if he's used it. Besides that, the only other social network I can think of that isn't a cesspool for privacy is probably Diaspora, but its pointless.

I think this is a bad idea.

I think it will attract the wrong kind of users.

I second this.

Given the magnitude of Facebook, a lot of people believe It will direct traffic to their site, when In fact It doesn't play any significant role. Those (active users) on Facebook are familiar and accustomed to the platform, and most don't bother nor consider changing to a new environment/community.
I agree with what's said about Twitter though.

Well it's clear that facebook isn't an option I think everyone knows that and it's pointless even discussing it.

I highly agree with using the Twitter account @Oni has. Maybe the Staff members could run it as we would know what's going on, announcements, updates, important updates etc.

I'm 100% in favor.
