I've never trusted (and never will), my data In the hands of a given app controlled and/or owned by an entity, and this article concludes my thoughts. What's staggering about the breach, Is this:

The app, Timehop, has more than 21 million users. Every single one of them was impacted by the breach.

A mobile app that mines your social networking accounts for posts from the past has reported a major hacking incident.

Timehop users can plug the app into their Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Dropbox accounts. Timehop uses the access to those services to put together nostalgic daily collections of past posts. In their listings on Google Play and the App Store, Timehop describes what it does saying that "it's like throwback Thursday every day."

The hacker began accessing databases and exfiltrating data. It didn't take long for the malicious activity to trigger an alarm. Within 90 minutes, Timehop staff had begun responding to the attack and locking down access.

90 minutes can be an eternity in the world of cyber security, however, and plenty of damage had already been done. The hacker managed to scoop up usernames, emails, telephone numbers, and Timehop access keys.
