Hi!

Has anyone here watched Snowden, the movie made to show a dramatization of what Edward Snowden did?

I think I must have watched it about three times now within the past few months. While I guess you could say scary, I also think it's really interesting all the things governments collect.

After watching it, I also did research into the NSA program, XKEYSCORE because I was very interested in it, it is insane what they can do. As they store HTTP traffic and everything, if they wanted to find people who speak German in Israel, they can search for people on the internet from Israel, but who use German HTML tags and track them through that. They can enter a URL and see IP's of everyone visiting the site. Enter a URL and see form entries to get login details from people using the site. I heard something about finding an email address based on someone using Google Maps in a specific way. It is crazy what they can do.

Although trailers depict the best parts of the movie, I must say It looks quite Impressive.

In terms of your last paragraph, we're all monitored online, some more than others depending on the nature of their activity. Every link & Image clicked, keywords entered, type of videos viewed, chat etc- they're all tracked.

Yeah, it's just insane on the detail they go into. It makes you wonder how anyone could possibly do cyber crime without being caught. Even people doing crime in real life who talked about it online or prepared with resources online, how they were allowed to go through with it.

I watched it when it came out, I was a little disappointed at how much they dumbed it down, but the plot still made for an interesting movie

I agree. The statement about having "sleepers" I think he called it within power grids in countries so if they ever weren't an ally anymore, "lights out". It's scary but amazing what people can do these days.

i don't remember that in the movie, but I can see something like that being a little far fetched. Sleeper programs always made good television though, thanks USSR

What starts off as a miniscule form of cyber crime, becomes an obsession.

That's when things get out of hand, hence leads to the apprehension and conviction for the majority Involved.
