I would ask a staff member in future. I have a feeling that if a girl went into a blokes bathroom, she'd get away with it. Law or no law, girls will go nuts over the smallest things and are more likely to report you than males (be it your friends or anyone else who may have been in there). As much as I wish there weren't these double standards, they still exist.
