Senate Passes $1.9 Trillion COVID-Relief Bill #1
Bill passed on slim vote. Income limit for stimulus checks was changed.

Quote:Senate Democrats passed President Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan on Saturday afternoon in a 50-49 vote after a grueling all-night voting session, pushing the massive relief bill over a crucial hurdle on its way to becoming law over the objections of the Republican Party and setting up a major victory for Biden in the early days of his presidency.

The legislation will authorize hundreds of billions of dollars in federal spending for vaccine distribution and virus testing, hospitals, state and local governments, schools and small businesses to combat the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and offset its economic toll.

The bill includes a third round of stimulus checks in the amount of $1,400 for eligible individuals, another tranche of enhanced federal unemployment benefits of $300 per week, a major expansion of the child tax credit, tax relief for canceled student loan debt and billions of dollars for rental and food assistance.

I'm glad people will receive more help that they need. Although, as with any big budget item, my mind goes straight to "how is this being paid for".

My own nation is having this squabble at the moment. Our NHS staff are upset over a reduction in their usual 2% annual pay increase. This infuriated me, as many are either jobless or living on 80% of their usual wages, in companies that actually produce money for the economy, while the nurses are kicking a fuss and demanding a 12.5% raise.

However, this is a prime example of "who gets to pay for it". I imagine this is where politics really kick in. Our Labour party (UK equivalent to the Democrat party), expect to tax the rich even further (our recent economical changes hit the rich folks bad, as they're the ones currently paying for everything). It'd be interesting to see what happens with future budgets in the states, as I suspect the pattern I see in the UK, will be mirrored in the US' own politics.

This Is certainly welcomed by those who are seriously financially affected by the COVID-19 situation.

It won't do the economy any good, though.

Glad to see a third relief payment will be going out again. Might spend more of uncle sam’s money here or on a new car.
