It depends on your overall usability. A lot of times, It's not the OS that's the Issue, but more so the "user" behind the OS (due to carelessness, lack of training, awareness and safe practice).

For those who simply navigate via Facebook and nothing else, a good Internet Security Suite (along with some training and awareness of how to browse safely online), will suffice. If you're Into the hacking side of things, always have a "dedicated" system solely for that purpose and nothing else. If you have a home network (like myself), Isolate/segregate It from the network. I highly recommend Installing a VM (Virtual Machine) and use that as the Guest OS, thereby every task will be performed In It's Isolated environment, hence the Host system (physical machine on which the VM Is Installed) will remain untouched.

Keep your sensitive credentials (logins and the like) on another PC and ONLY login via that. For extra security, you can use a "Live CD" (example Linux) and login thereafter. Although It will not prevent MITM attacks, because It's "read-only", It will certainly protect against keyloggers, RATs, stealers etc and any malicious content looking to Install Itself on your PC.

There's too many to mention. As said, It depends on your computing habits and how you utilize your PC.

I personally keep a copy of Tails on a USB, I am always cautious of links(I was that asshole friend who spammed links to sites that don't close haha), I watch all my downloads carefully, if I didn't start it I won't let it finish(and with slow wifi I am able to stop alot lool), I also use Ad-Block Plus, they might not be the best but if you use firefox it will stop alot of unwanted popups and annoying ads, but be warned some sites will pop up a blocker til you turn it off(you can inspect element and close most of those though). For any user of Windows I highly highly highly recommend that you stay up to date even a single delayed update can open you up to a world of hurt, computer wise.

Given you use Tails, I'm surprised you don't also use Tor.

Or perhaps you do and haven't mentioned It.

I use Tor when needed, but for most of my clear web activities (fb,sl,yt) it just isn't worth the hassle.

You're right about the hassle.

At times, Tor struggles to load even It's default search engine. That said, It's a free service that serves It's purpose well when running In It's optimal state, hence can't complain.

If it's for basic needs, just get something like Malwarebytes?

My advice... Switch to Linux, you will have a better security experience any distro. If you really want to be safe, go the macOS route. As far as Windows, you will have to ask some other members that use that platform. @mothered probably has some good advice.
