It's the same set-up as my school uses. The reason you don't find anything in the sam file is because you log in on the network not the computer itself.
You can't access the shared drives because the connection is made in windows trough a script (probably batch) and when you boot linux it doesn't execute the script.

What do you mean to escalate previliges? And how where should I use those keywords? As a login, do you mean?

Tried typing net user and see how many users are qctually in the machine?

It's the same in my school, all the different "computers" are actually servers,
they run Windows 7. In my school they are really laggy and stuff, they run on the Windows 7
classic theme too.
