San Bernadino, CA Shootings #1
For those who've been under a rock:

Two assailants opened fire in San Bernardino at a party in the Inland Regional Center around 11 a.m. Wednesday December 2.
Fourteen people were killed and 21 wounded, most of them county employees.

The two attackers , who were married, were killed in a gun battle with police. They were U.S.-born Syed Rizwan Farook and Pakistan national Tashfeen Malik, and had an arsenal of ammunition and pipe bombs in their Redlands home.

Federal law enforcement officials say Malik pledged allegiance to Islamic State in a Facebook post, but the FBI chief said there is no sign the couple were part of a terrorist network.

FBI officials announced Friday that the agency is officially investigating the shooting as terrorism. Other federal law enforcement sources say it still might also be workplace related.

Above credit to LA Times.

I've been watching this story since the beginning. I was only a couple of miles from where it took place and saw a piece of the police lock down of the surrounding streets, firsthand. As I've seen more investigation into this horrible event, I get a sinking feeling that this is only the start of more of these events to come here in the US. I hope I'm wrong, but the whole thing is scary and my faith in our government is and has been shaken over recent years. How can we stop people who can easily hide among us and don't mind dying? All with a government that can't get shit done. I'm sick of the parties bickering with each other and candidates using this horrible event to gain traction in an upcoming election. What a bunch of snake oil salesmen. Makes me sick!

Then today I saw this piece with the family lawyer of the shooters:

WTF? This guy sounds like a complete moron. Are you kidding me? Now, I've seen everything. Any thoughts on all of this mess?

They converted their semi-automatics into automatics, as well.

Damn, why do so many shootings happen in the US? It's nothing like that here in Canada.

A fraction of your population has firearms, as well.

Yeah, unfortunately, this is really easy to do. There needs to be a nationwide ban on high capacity magazines. No reason to go full auto when you have 8 rounds in the clip.

I could be wrong, but it also seems like in a lot these cases, the firearms are bought within a year or two of the incidents. They aren't people that have had firearms for years. So, I think there's hope in higher screening measures for new gun buyers. That is if the US government can do something for a change.

I almost doubt that anything could be done without massive civil unrest at this point, I may be wrong. I feel like if any attempt would be made at any sort of ban the NRA would freak out and rally, pull second amendment and blow it out of proportion, tell the people that the government is trying to take our guns, etc. I feel like it would be a huge mess.

Banning high capacity magazines isn't really going to prevent them from being obtained. In this instance, a large amount of planning was evident. This couple was capable of converting their rifles into automatics, obtaining explosives, and much worse. It is wrong to take away any fraction of rights/freedom in response to terrorism/violence.

I purposely don't watch nor read anything pertaining to the news. This thread Is 4 days old and It's the first I've heard of this happening.
My goodness, what's this world coming to?
