Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo - Intial Review #1
[Image: llaY2lN.jpg]

So there it is, my not an S5 yet still an S5, I wasn't aware that a S5 Neo wasn't a real S5! I just assumed it was the colour! Silly Megan, none the less I'm still happy with it.

So what is a S5 Neo vs a regular S5?
The Neo is slightly less powerful but at the same time still worth the interest if you ask me for a full comparison check here.

The first impression
After unboxing it from its attractive wooden coloured package the phone looked large, much larger than I had anticipated and much larger than my iPhone which was now trembling beside me.

Still, the phone looked great and something that blew my mind away was the lightness of the phone I was quite genuinely shocked at the weight difference, perhaps something to do with the S5 being larger so more room to spread things out? Anyway the battery was ridiculously easy to install so was the sim card, SD card and even the back of the case was too.

I won't offer my opinion on the phone's OS because that is irrelevant and not really something I have never experienced before as I emulate android-86x.

Now the two main things that made me interested in an S5 1. The battery 2. The screen size, I'm not a huge fan of complete customisation as someone who is always repairing family gadgets them all having iPhones makes it so much easier for me because I don't have to fumble around, all of their settings are the same. So how did the battery and the screen size fair?

Battery
I won't lie, I was a little disappointed with the battery at first, it seemed to drain at the same speed as my iPhone with near identical settings enabled, never the less I put it down to me installing it and setting everything up regular usage over the next few days will tell me if I'm right or not about the battery.

However one thing about the battery / phone has blown me away, I went to sleep at 9PM and woke up at 3AM (Sleeping pattern is rekt) my iPhone had 70% battery and when I awoke it was down to 43%, this is nothing new to me, I'm used to being fucked over if I don't put my phone on charge at night. The S5 however and I'll say it again has surprised me, I went to sleep with 83% battery and I woke up to 83% battery, I was genuinely shocked by it. So all in all I believe with regular usage and not setting up / installing everything I normally use it will be pretty awesome.

Screen Size
Screen size I'm happy with, not much to report but I like it and one of the things that really stand out is the quality, I know that the iPhone 5S has a far lesser screen but honestly the S5 doesn't blow the 5S out of the water, it blows it out of the solar system. I watched the same 4K video on both devices at the same time and I was shocked by the difference, the 5S made everything look dull and gloomy where as the S5 made me feel like I was actually watching something on my TV I know that the S5 supports 1080p and has the same resolution as my computer monitor but it is still shocking to see such HQ on a small device.

conclusion
S5 > 5S that is all.

I'll update this review in a weeks time when I can give a proper opinion on the phone.

Have you rooted it yet? Not sure if it would use the same roots as the S5, but if it does, towelroot works on most galaxy S devices.

Nope and at the moment I have no desire to, there's nothing rooting can do that will provide anything I actually want or need right now, other than potentially bricking my phone if I fuck up.

A lot of the 1 click roots really minimize possibility of bricking your phone, root could potentially help you out with battery life, I had an app (can't remember the exact name and don't know if it's still supported) that had different CPU clock presets depending on what I was doing, it ended up saving tons of battery life for me and on my last phone I went from half a day to a full day on battery due to dropping down from 2GHz to 300 or so MHz when it wasn't needed.

That's interesting, I'll look into it thank you! Smile
