So I guess I don't get it. Why does damn near everyone here have the largest boners for social engineering. Is it the thrill of the steal? Is it a power high? Do you hate the companies? Why. The stuff, to me, is trivial and it seems like skid work if I'm being 100% honest. I could see the appeal if it was to better the companies and was like a neo-penetration test for companies but most seem to do it for the money kinda like bottom feeding. I mean why do you think that you should be able to waltz into these places take what you want and leave? It's literally like taking candy from a baby and I can't help but painfully laugh at how accurate that statement is.

The other day I was watching a video on YouTube about Nietzsche and his work on Theory of Forms and stumbled into some info about his personal life. See, Nietzsche HATED Christianity. He also hated alcohol and he's quoted saying that the worst narcotics in society were alcohol and Christianity. The interesting bit is WHY he hated them so much. See he thought that it was ignorant of Christians to resist envy (and that alcohol blurred true sight.) He thought that envy was crucial to mankind's divine endeavor towards self-realization and actualization. Essentially, he thought envy was not a sin, but rather a TOOL. Envy, to Nietzsche, was mankind's primitive expression of deeper, more holistic passions. Envy should be used to figure out what you truly want and to be used as a tool to reach these more whole goals.

So my question to all of you is:
Why the fuck are you wasting your time feeding moronic oversimplifications of what you actually want when you can take the time to discover what it is you truly desire and become actually happy?

Respectfully,

You can see it as people stealing stuff in real life. Why do people steal? Because they can't afford it or want to make money. This is the same reason why people do this online.

Put a buffer between the thief and the consequence and they will think less of their actions as being "wrong". Let them think they're stealing from a large organization and not from an individual that they know - they will think of it as less "wrong". Hence why you see so much of it online.

I think it's because they can get free stuff well they don't want to work or earn it. Then it becomes a bragging tool and makes them seem cool.

This. I've stolen mostly in real life and sometimes online. I do it because I'd like to eat that day, but I don't have the money to afford it. I'm more than aware it's not a good thing and I actually hate the process, but there's only so many bones you can make about it.

Also most people refund and not SE. SE actually requires charisma, though it's just because I've never done it online I guess.

That said, I bet most new users ask it here because they don't want to use daddy's credit card.

Having worked in AP before, I can tell you that 95% people steal for the thrill, for the money (not needed, want more), or because they're lazy and don't find an issue with the morality.

That said, a very small percentage does because they have to. But that small percentage makes up a small percentage of people who are poor. Most people who can't afford to put food on the table pick up jobs. Both Walmart and Target both start at $11 an hour which is most definitely livable especially for full-time people. 40hours x 11 an hour = 440 a week, 880 biweekly before tax which is around 750 - 800 with taxes for 1600 a month. Totals to 19,200 a year, well above the poverty line. I understand that there are other things to take into account like bs charges which might make finding a job difficult.

I'd also like to point out that the people who have responded to this thread so far are all longer-timed members of SL and none of the "new crowd" who seem to be making all these posts.

As for the retail theft stuff, I don't understand why people call it "SE". Social Engineering is actually a real thing, but it's totally different than this. I think they like to call it that because they want to sound more intelligent and have an excuse for not getting away with it (since hacking often results in failure).

But really though, there are way too many skids around (not just here) who think retail theft is not only social engineering but a skill. The only reason people get away with it is because companies don't want the hassle of recovering their property. Even worse are the people who think that the company can't do anything about it (like blacklist the SN/IMEI/HWADDR), and if you try to tell them otherwise, one guy will say "no they no can do that" and everybody will believe them. Furthermore, everybody I see around here who is a career criminal in retail theft can't even write a full sentence. Every post looks like my 2 year old write it.
