RiseUP VPN #1
I only recently started using a VPN full time, since prior, I've had no use for one.
Now, I was considering purchasing a VPN, but as my friend pointed out, that's a horrible idea, it'd be linked back to me so I wouldn't gain anything.
He then suggested RiseUP, who provide a free (albeit invite only) VPN service.

So, let's see, what's there to know about it:

Price: It's free! Joining requires either two invites from current RiseUP members, or you can put in a join request, and they'll review and either accept or deny your request.

Speed: It's fairly fast, and since I'm Australia, I feel as if it's made my internet faster than usual. I haven't done any speed tests or actual testing, but I haven't seen any noticeable differences.

Security: I'm not an expert, but it's pretty good. Everything goes through their network, which have two main clusters, located in both East and West US. Every time you connect, you're allocated a new IP, and this IP is for you, and you only. Unless they're running low on allocatable IPs at the time, you'll be the only person using this IP for a looooong time.
They also block out various ad networks aswell as scamware, so that you're transparently protected from problematic sites and tracking on the internet.

Ease of use: Could not be easier to use. I'm running Linux, so I just put the VPN details into my network manager, check autoconnect and I'm good to go. Everything, and I mean everything goes through the VPN with no other configuration needed. They provide information on setting up your VPN connection for all major operating systems (aswell as Android/iOS, I believe), which makes it a breeze.

Extra: Legion mentioned in his VPN review that the one he was talking about added ads to pages, etc. RiseUP doesn't do that. It's free, and they'll keep it that way. (They do however accept donations, which if you use it, I urge you to do)
You also get an email, @riseup.net, which allows you to securely accept emails without worrying about tiebacks. You can set a recovery email, but it's not required, if you're 100% you won't lose your password anytime.

Overall: I would give RiseUP a 9/10 (one being lowest, ten being highest) for everything. Their VPN service is amazing, aswell as the free email you get aswell.

That's how you write a review, motherfucker.

Sadly, if you invite people you don't know fairly well, they might close your account.
If I get to know you perhaps, but you could always put in an account request; you just write a bit about yourself and why you want an account, and you're good to go.

very nice review I will definitely try this out! Also, just letting you know, in the "Extra" paragraph you said "etc. RiseUP don't do that." it should be "etc. RiseUP doesn't do that." (just thought I should let you know Tongue). but ya, great review! Biggrin

Hm, you have a good point. In the context I was reading it, it makes grammatical sense. (e.g.: "You like to suck penis, cock, dick, etc. I don't do that.")
Still, yours does make more grammatical sense, so I'll change it regardless.

Riseup has been around for a fucking decade as an autonomous cryptoanarchist collective.

I have used RiseUP and know a bunch of people that do but I fail to see how it's fast for you.
It's great for anonymity but I can say from personal experience and from what I hear from friends it's terribly slow.

The French VPN server from Autistici which is another RiseUP like organization would probably be better for you and for people in Europe in general.
