Well Greetings,

This is just a friendly reminder regarding reporting posts. I personally appreciate it when folks use the report button to bring our attention to threads or posts that may be in violation of our rules. This gives us the ability to review questionable content and make sure we're removing anything found to be in violation of the site rules.

However, I've noticed a recent uptick in reported posts that don't really seem to be rule violations. This results in staff members spending a lot of time reviewing threads or posts trying to find what rule was broken.

If you are reporting a post, please make sure your description outlines the issue with the post or the rule violation. From this point on, reported posts that simply say "retarded", "faggot", "dipshit", etc, will likely be ignored. Continued abuse of the report system may result in a warning being issued.

I'm certainly not trying to come off as a hard ass about it, but it makes my life, and every other staff member life, much easier when the reported post has a valid explanation.

Most of the time post reports are accurate and concise, keep doing the needful. Just please be sure to use the system for its intended purposes.

Just a suggestion with the Report system as a whole, and how to help avoid reported posts that do not warrant the action.

Here's where I believe the problems exist. In the first example, It reads "You should only report posts that are spam, advertising messages or abuse".



This tells me that ONLY posts that fit that description, should be reported. Yes, I realize It goes further than that, but anyone new to this forum (or forums In It's entirety) will most likely Interpret that for what It Is and not report anything that doesn't fit the description. Those who know better, report posts further than that, hence problems arise.

The second problem Is the Input field for the reason which reads "Your reason for reporting this post".



Given the reasons have already been mentioned In my first example, there shouldn't be a problem. But there Is, because reported posts extend further than the reasons mentioned. As a result, the reasons are left at the member's discretion.

The Fix:

First problem: Reword It to something like "Examples of reported posts are spam, advertising messages, abuse etc. The "etc" will cover everything else that warrants a report.

The second problem: Rather than having an "Input field", whereby anything can be entered, have a "drop-down menu" listing all reportable offenses. This will significantly reduce the problem at hand. In the end of the drop-down menu, have a "misc" option. When this Is selected during the report, the staff member can decide (at his/her discretion) whether the report fits the offense.

This is so true.
I could never figure out if I was only allowed to report posts that were "spam, advertising messages or abuse," and no others.
