Yes, in most cases python backdoors are fairly useless. This one is small enough, though, you could concievably hide it in a sufficiently large project, and get people to run it.

You can still compress it, that is, if we are basing on "detectability" off of size.

Not while getting around firewalls with ease. By connecting to the attacker, versus your approach of running as a server, you don't have to worry about port forwarding and such, and you don't need to have root.
