If Microsoft Essentials is there, you might be able to uninstall the programs it has.

Windows hasn't let you uninstall default programs since XP. The OEM, e.g. Dell, will put bloatware on your system, you can remove that if you want. Unless you're downloading several hundred GB of music, movies, or games hard drive space should be a problem. Also you will have some programs listed for your hardware, e.g. network adapter, you should keep that. Last but not least you could download, [url=http://www.revouninstaller.com/[/url] It has a built in search function for when you right click a piece of software, it will tell you whether you need it or not. Use the Moderate function, it will clean the program files folder. If you think you may have malware on your system, look for any suspicious dll's on your system.

Whatever you don't use would be useless, so remove those.

This might help

http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/index.aspx

I have used this program many times for tutorials for people asking similar questions. At the last time of use this program had zero adware, malware, or other spyware crap bundled.
Best of luck.
