Question about telephone number spoofing #1
Hey guys, I've read a few threads on here pertaining to cellular number spoofing and haven't really gained a clear vision. Some say you need a PBX and others say its done using voip. Im wondering exactly how people like scam callers can emulate my phone number for someone else, not even necessarily people I know? My assumption is Voip uses mechanisms similar to SMTP in that you can put a different sender / receiver address than that of the true sender? Similar in mechanism to spoofing an email essentially. I'm assuming this is also why you don't get spam text messages as your phone "resolves" the phone number back to your actual phone so the scammer wouldn't be able to receive any information, only send. This then pushes the scammer to simply make a call instead? Let me know what you guys think.

Edit: Want to make clear I'm not talking about burner numbers. I mean the physical mechanism by which you spoof your "from" address when making a call. Say you're number is 111-111-1111 and you call someone and it shows as 000-000-0001.

With just a little bit of googleing, I found some links that may help you:

I was fairly interested in this topic as well, but I haven't researched it to much yet. What I can tell you is that it's way easier to do this over VOIP and since VOIP is more and more used I think you should learn about how the protocol works and think of ways to develop your own way of spoofing a number if you don't find anything on the Internet

i have a script that i made through PHP-cli. it automates the installation and the dialplan for asterisk on any Debian 8 server. It also configures openvpn on the same server. I made it like a year ago. I run my own pbx with android phones connected via Csip. I can demonstrate to you + provide escrow if youre interested to buy.

ALSO any sip/voip related questions or services feel free to hit me up can also provide spoof calling and stuff just seeing what people like over here im new to this forum.
