Im not 100% sure,if this the correct subforum but the question I have is in relation to a topic here. Ive used nacktrack but never tried kali. I noticed many people agreing with w00t about backtrack. I too agree with him and want to try kali but, I would be doing so ignorantly. So my question is. Would someone here be willing to show me how to set up kali snd teach me how yo use it? Any volunteers would be majorly appreciated.

Are you looking for a tutorial on how to use the tools or how to set it up?

For tools, just look up some tutorials on whatever tools you're interested in. Nobody's going to explain every single tool to you.

If you're looking for how to set it up, there's a variety of options. Live CDs, dual-booting and virtualization. A live-CD is just a CD/USB/external source you can boot the distro from, which requires no installation on your own computer. Dual-booting is where you use it with your main OS, like if I had Windows I could dual-boot it with Gentoo so when I boot-up I could select Windows or Gentoo. With virtualization, you create a virtual machine and basically run an operating system within another operating system with something like VirtualBox.

Pick one and look up how to do it.

Yeah, I have used a vm before and prefer that. I dont need someone to explain every tool. Just to show me the ropes. Maybe a few tools of interest and answer my questions. Unless theres a place that talks about the tools, but, not to hold my hand. Thanks for replying.

Well for the most part Kali is based off of Debian, and Backtrack is indirectly based off of it since Ubuntu is based off of Debian. Considering that, you should learn the basics of Debian and how apt (Debian's package manager) works. You should also learn some general Bash, since it's the unofficial shell of any GNU/Linux distribution and is very helpful.

As for the unique tools of Kali (e.g Metasploit and Aircrack) their manuals will probably provide better documentation than individual members here, and they save everyones' time. Read them and if you have any questions try to figure them out by yourself, if you still can't find the answer then post them here.
