She will get a "royal train" from Scotland to London ffs!!

Just a little information sharing: The money spent on the royal family is done so with the knowledge that the living royal family actually generate more money for the economy than they cost. If your goal is to increase spending money for the government, getting rid of the royals is counterproductive.

To everyone commenting on this thread: I'm a little surprised at how toxic the comments have been. You don't have to believe in monarchy or like every person in that family, but I do think some human decency isn't too much to ask for when someone dies.

I'm not a royalist, but I respect the Queen for spending her life serving the country, for her work towards international relations (especially the commonwealth) and for putting her role before herself. Yes, they are wealthy, yes there are some bad eggs in that family (as there are in any normal family), but the Queen has been a force for good for most. I believe that William & Kate will do a lot more good when their time comes.
they're not chosen by god you don't have to bootlick, can't believe people still worship monarchs

Lovely set of assumptions there. I don't think anyone in 2022 believes any of that, even the Church of England Christians.

As someone who is not a royalist, I've found reading about their lives and achievements interesting. They played a unique role in global politics, specifically for the commonwealth. I'd recommend anyone read up on it. The Queen herself worked towards improving racial justice and often worked to improve equality. I do think she changed the monarchy for the better, though more work is needed. For example, the Crown Act of 2013 (moving heir succession to gender equality).
Monarchy isn't what it was 100 years ago. It's not some colonial engine looking for domination. It now works for the UK, commonwealth and a massive number of charity organisations (many of which they created themselves).

I don't like the idea of Monarchy as standard, but this particular one has an important role for the societies it serves. If nothing else, it also brings a lot of money to my country, and for that I won't complain. I don't agree with everything they do, but from my own research, it seems the Queen, the new King and his heir have done more good than harm for the world. Therefore I have no reason to hate them (except Andrew who quite rightly was stripped of his titles and patronages).

Fair enough, maybe my wording was a little harsh and done without detailed research however I don't believe any money from the taxpayers should be spent on them, especially with such a divide in who supports them and who doesn't. I suppose we will never fully understand or know the financial background to what they spend/bring in.

That's fair! I don't entirely disagree to be truthful. Most of what they live on is from their "personal wealth" which ofc is privilege in itself. Their earnings and revenue streams are totally public though. Anyone can read up on it and petition/vote as needed!

As far as I've read so far, the public money mostly goes towards refurbing the buildings (which would be done with or without a living monarchy as a tourism investment). But the staffing and financing of those buildings could probably do with another reform to reduce costs (they did a reform to this effect in the 90s I think?).

Britain wasn't the only empire to colonize. France, Spain, Portugal... arguably any nation of power did similar. Colonization ended within the first few years of her reign.

If you mean Epstein, blame Prince Andrew. Arguably everyone had ties to him, including the Trumps/Clintons.

A woman who lived a life none of us will ever live. She was a historical figure that time will remember ad infinitum.
