If Niantic carry on as they are doing now (crappy tracking, botters/cheaters everywhere etc) i can't see this game lasting very long, especially with the lack of content. However recently they have begun to ban cheaters and are planning to implement better tracking and trading. If they can do this before the majority of people lose interest in the game then i reckon the trend will last a while. But they better do it soon, like 25% of the players have quit(probably more) because of the said problems.
Also when trading comes out there's one thing i can see happening, and that is scamming. People could just cheat to get rare Pokemon and sell it for real life money to kids. I'm really interested to see how Niantic will approach this, i mean they have already started to move in the right direction but i don't know if they can keep it up.

There's no right or wrong and It Is an "each to their own scenario", but speaking for myself, I cannot justify setting aside Important tasks just to play a game of this nature.

Playing it has been an insanely annoying experience, and I didn't even play it legitly.
Servers are down constantly, there's a million different bugs that cause the app to crash, rare pokemon flee after you waste half your inventory trying to catch them, constantly running out of space/pokeballs/pokedex, ect.
Not to mention that the leveling is stupidly exponential and progress after level 25 is a joke.
