PC Suddenly Shuts Off, Problem. Please Help Your Brother #1
(I posted this problem on thread: http://www.hackcommunity.com/User-XTRMS4NITY but I realized that the latest reply still on April 2014, I suspect that it was an old thread) I apologize if posting this as a thread after posting as a post is a sin in HC. Just in a crisis right now. Sad

Hello Everyone,

I am having trouble and I need your help. Any input is welcome.

I have been using windows 8 for like 9 months now and I liked it. The performance is good, not like what others are saying - to be fair with windows 8 users. If you are a slow learner and have not tried it - you just seen a picture of what windows 8 looks like - please don't go saying windows 8 sucks, cause it had fair improvements. (Even though windows really suck overall)

Here's my problem.

I used to run my pc on Windows 7 with 2GB RAM. And then 4 months later, my boss asked me to try windows 8 for him and I fell in love with UI. In my defense, I am a practical person and I always choose performance over looks. But my PC can take the UI. Going back to my problem. From then I am using windows 8 and reported anything good I find in windows 8 like, it boots fast and then I upgraded my RAM 3 days after using windows 8. I added 4GB RAM with the same frequency, 2GB = 1600 and 4GB 12800/1600, I noticed that my PC shuts off like the power has been directly pulled from the outlet, after awhile it turns back on.

I think it was my RAM's problem so I tried removing either of the RAMs but still experiences the whole thing, like "poof!" shuts off and 4 to 7 seconds after, it turns back on.

Note that from the first 3 days, I have not used windows 8 for large processes, like using 80% of the CPU capacity all the time.

Another note, I can't remember that I experienced this thing when I was using windows 7 even when I play games.

I also think it's because of PC tempare (PC Shuts off again when I was typing this line) because my PC Gets too hot. However, why didn't I experienced this thing when I was using windows 7, I had 2 GB of RAM then and used it very harsh with games and other processes.

Does windows 7 have better tolerance of PC temp? IDK... I am asking to kill my ignorance. Grin

Please help me.

Your friendly HCzen,
XTRMS4NITY

Well I have some versions what might be happening (please don't judge me, I'm just trying to help)
1. Maybe it's some nasty virus
2. Your PC is overheating
3. Problems with Power suply ( in my case power suply replacement worked)
4. Problems with mobo
5. Something went wrong in RAM installation ( most likely not )

Hello Brother,

Thank you for your input, I appreciate it.

1. I scanned my PC and it is clean. This is also a fresh installation of Win 8 so maybe it is still clean. Biggrin
2. That is what I thought so, too. Maybe it's just too hot. However, it also happens while booting.
3. I never thought of this but maybe. However, even if I am using batteries, or using direct charging (battery removed) it still happens. I also noticed that when I use direct charging (battery removed) or using only batteries, this seldom happens. This leads me to think that your response number 2 is correct.
4. I don't know what mobo is. Could you explain it further for me, please?
5. I think I had it installed just fine because when I open AIDA, it detects the individual RAM, their frequency, and the total usable RAM.

Again, really thank you for your input. Maybe you can help me after I added some information in this reply?

1. Okay if clean, then clean.
2. If it's happening on boot, that doesn't make much sence (still possible some glitch)
3. Maybe try to reinstall battery driver? (worked for me once )
4. MOBO = motherboard
5. What's AIDA? Smile
6. What's your machines model?
And could you give little bit more details?

1. Yes. It is. Biggrin
2. I think so, too.
3. I am using HP NB 1000 1127tu and I can't find any battery driver in their drivers page.
4. MOBO is motherboard? Wow thanks for that, I have another term learned.
5. AIDA64: http://www.aida64.com/
6. at number 3 Smile

Please tell me if you need anything more. Smile
I appreciate your accommodating effort.

With re-installing battery driver i mean something like this - Windows 7 laptop problems
Im starting get out of ideas...
Is it dusty(inside)?
Tried to remove CMOS battery?
And i still think that might be a virus...
Maybe a new thermal paste for CPU would solve a problem?
Run a ramtest to check your RAM...
Do you have 2 graphics cards?
If yes then mby try to disable one.

What you really have to do is download more ram @ http://www.downloadmoreram.com/

In seriousness,
Download some software such as speccy to monitor if something might be overheating.

With your new ram module, you may not have enough power from the PSU, and the only solution to this would be to get a more powerful PSU.

You could try taking the new RAM out and seeing if it runs well. The new RAM could be faulty in which you could get a RMA.

You may also have to update your motherboard in which can be found in your motherboards manufacturers manual, which most of them are available online or come with the motherboard if you built it yourself.

I would suggest a stress test. Download a graphics card benchmarker and run it while streaming youtube videos. See if you can trigger a crash. Monitor CPU, RAM, and Temp. If it does go out that might mean it IS hardware. If not then it could be software? If that is so I would suggest booting into a usb stick of ubuntu and attempt to stress test inside of linux.

Hi... Biggrin

This is really mind boggling.. Biggrin

Maybe the problem is that the thermal paste ran dry. Or something like that.

I regularly do RAM test and there is no problem found.

I only have 1 graphic card.

Thank you again. I am looking forward to your next input. Biggrin

I ran stress test and there's nothing there. Usage goes up and temperature goes up but there are no sudden shut off. Thank you for your input...

Maybe I need a new unit? Biggrin I bought this 2 years ago..Biggrin
