About a month ago TV Asahi made a poll on the top 100 anime of all time for anime's 100th anniversary. The results were extremely surprising to say the least. The first, second, and sixth spot's were held by Tiger & Bunny + Tiger & Bunny movies, a show I've never heard of. Many newer show's like Bongou Stray Dogs(31st place) and Joker Game(12th place) ranked higher than many classics like Ghost in Shell(46th place) and AKIRA(97th place). Cowboy Bebop only got 34th place even though it's one of the most well known anime world wide, even many non-anime fans loved it; Steins;Gate got 35th place even though it's ranked #5 on MyAnimeList; and somehow Death Note wasn't on it at all! This just show's how different the Japanese anime community is from the international community.

Edit: I forgot to mention that unsurprisingly Idol anime did extremely well. Love Live took 4th, 5th, and 9th place.

Hunter x Hunter is the best

Missing a lot of what I would consider to be better than some listed (Deadman Wonderland, Toradora!, Koe no Katachi...), but it has a lot of the stuff that I would have chosen as well.
