[Otaku] Spice & Wolf Review 03-26-2014, 01:02 PM
#1
To begin, I'd like to say that even though this probably won't seem as good as it actually is, I would recommend you definitely try this anime. It is full of twists and turns, in a good way.
-Synopsis-
"The peddler Kraft Lawrence travels through the world selling all kinds of things. After visiting a village, he discovers a sleeping girl under the pelts in his cart. She has wolf ears and a tail. The wolf girl explains that she has been called a "god," but that her name is Holo and nothing more. Lawrence teases the girl a little, but after hearing more of her story, he is moved and decides to accompany her further north. On their travels the two have many adventures, often getting into trouble, but the bond between them grows stronger."

-Plot-
At the beginning of the story is a young merchant named "Kraft Lawrence". His economically intelligence has led him from town to town trading and buying various items to make a living while still in a middle-aged time. He goes to a small village by the name of Pasroe that harvests wheat and where people trade for such of the nature. After successfully trading in Pasroe, he looks into his wagon and finds a young looking girl, that has ears and a tail like a wolfs. She goes on presenting herself, she says that she is a 600 year old pagan wolf girl named Holo (or Horo). Explaining herself, she tells the man she is a goddess of a town that keeps the wheat enviable for many years. She has a problem, but despite her duty as a town goddess, she wishes to return to "Yoitsu", her home. She believes people have forsaken her, and she believes she has kept her responsibility to the harvests. As she arranges her way out of the village, she finds herself on many journeys with Lawrence. The adventure has only begun.
-Characters-
I believe the characters are more than fitting, and their personalities match their character very well. What makes this exciting, is that you meet a lot of new people throughout all of their journeys and adventures. From traders to buyers, and from rich to the poor. All of the characters have a fully filled personality which contain many great traits. There are a lot of things you have to remember about the characters that make it worth while watching during all of the series, and which makes it a lot more amazing.
-English Dub and Sub-
When I say this anime is good in both dub and sub, I mean it. Most people say that dubs kill all anime, which I understand; but not all. Most of anime dubs are butchered by bad voice acting, bad animation, ect.. but this dub has a lot to offer that other dubs just can't seem to do. All of this based on opinion, I honestly liked the dub better than I did the sub. Don't get me wrong, the sub isn't bad, but if you like dubbed anime too then I'd recommend the dub first.
-Pros-
I love the idea of the plot, it gets better and better as you go along, much like Breaking Bad in a way. When you see so many fun-filled characters, you can't help but want to watch the series all over again. As it doesn't get boring easily, many adventures pop up at the most unexpected times and it can get from sad to happy in just a short while. It seems to happen a lot that mixed emotions pop up.
-Cons-
Even though the plot thickens as time grows, it seems like it was a little drug out at the end of season two. There is little combat, as far as actual fighting goes and I find that a little worse than usual animes such as this one.
