Makita has been researching doujinshi for 12 years, with a focus on male-targeted erotic manga. According to Makita's statistics, the average rate of consensual sex in the publications was 79%, while only 19% of scenarios were non-consensual.

Lots of it is non-consensual, which isn't as much of a bad thing because if there's more in the hentai realm, there should be less in the real world. There could be an argument that it makes it more "normal" and "acceptable". However, at the end of the day, it's still against the law. People would still be punished if they took it anywhere outside of hentai.
