Gatebox has paved the way for two-dimensional waifus, first by introducing its "Holographic Communication Robot" in 2016 and followed by establishing its Jigen Tokō Kyoku (Dimensional Voyage Department) and offering a marriage registration service for people who want to record their unions with 2D characters. Its Communication Robot has so far included the company's original character Hikari Azuma and Oreimo character Ayase Aragaki.

It costs just over $1,300 and is not dissimilar to having Alexa. Not sure what I'd do if my Mum walked in and saw that, though.

From what the article was saying, it's only their own character or the Oreimo character Ayase Aragaki. I can't see why they wouldn't be able to expand that in future, though.

If they allowed a different type of character or allow you to insert your own characters to make your very own customizable hologram assistant then It would probably be worth the price for me.

There are two characters as far as I'm aware. Just seems like a lot of money for a hologram. I didn't see any features that make it stand out above Alexa and other successful home assistant devices, beyond that hologram.
