What is it?

Akame ga Kiru! is a shonen action-fantasy manga written by Takahiro. It is known for being notoriously violent even for a shonen series, as it prominently features torture, suicide, rape, bestiality, and more. A prequel manga taking place before the main series called Akame ga Kill! Zero. An anime tv series is set to run on July 6th, 2014.

What's it about?

The series follows Tatsumi, who first plans to join the Capital as a way to make money for his struggling village. However, upon reaching the city, he encounters corruption, treachery and murder all under, and in the name of, the Empire. After an extremely distressing situation where he first-hand experiences the horrors of the Empire, he decides to join the assassin group Night Raid, a faction of The Revolutionary Army, whose targets include the corrupted and amoral. Along the way, Tatsumi must cope with the many dangers of his newfound work: the blurred lines between good and evil, the loss and departure of allies and friends, the dangerous relations with the enemy, and the so-called "evil" people within the Empire's ranks.
