North Korea's New Law #1
[Image: _118643563_nk_foreign_media_law_2_illustration.jpg]

Imagine being sent to a re-education camp for having your hair cut like a K-Pop star, or being executed for watching a South Korean drama. Well, that is apparently reality in North Korea. While I doubt any of us are surprised, it's still depressing to hear things only get worse for the country's civilians.

Code:
And now its leader Kim Jong-Un has clamped down further, introducing a sweeping new law against what the regime describes as "reactionary thought".
Anyone caught with large amounts of media from South Korea, the United States or Japan now faces the death penalty. Those caught watching face prison camp for 15 years.

And it's not just about what people watch.

Recently, Mr Kim wrote a letter in state media calling on the country's Youth League to crack down on "unsavoury, individualistic, anti-socialist behaviour" among young people. He wants to stop foreign speech, hairstyles and clothes which he described as "dangerous poisons".

I'm actually quite surprised, if they now feel the need to make laws about that it probably means civilians are being problematic.
That could be seen as some quite optimistic news then!

Actually, when you put it like that...

I'm also aware there was a service being advertised where you could donate USB sticks either containing TV shows/information or blank ones to a company, who would then fill them with outside info and smuggle them into North Korea. I've no idea if the company was really legit, but it does make me wonder.

Absolutely absurd.

I can't fathom why they'd enact such a ridiculous legislation. Focus on those who commit crimes, and not Individuals who have every right to act and behave well within reason.

I think the rule of thumb over their is that the leaders tell them how to act, what to think. If you ever get spare time, check out some of the ted talks from people who escaped NK. Here's some I've seen:

Suki Kim: This is what it's like going undercover in North Korea

Hyeonseo Lee: My escape from North Korea

Sorry for the correction.

That In Itself, Is enough to justify my comments In the aforementioned post.

Judging by their titles, It'll be very Interesting viewing. I plan to allocate time later this evening.

Oh my, I'm normally such a stickler for getting that correct. How embarrassing xD

I don't watch a lot of Ted talks, but these were particularly captivating for me. I hope you find them as fascinating as I did.
