Noob developer selling first Android app #1
Hi.
So, i have been getting into Android Development lately  (still a total noob) and actually got an oportunity to develop an app to someone.I accepted considering I know the basis and that it can really help me learn a lot more while developing this app. It is my first time actually doing commercial stuff and i have this fear of failure.

If you are a developer, can you please give any tips for this first app? Maybe to make it as unbreakable as possible  and about how to deal with the client in case of any failure in the app. Or maybe you can write about  the first app or software you sold to someone, that first experience.

Thank you in advance. Smile

Could you tell us what the app should do? This can help us assess the situation.

Is it a content management app for within a company? Or more like a website-to-app app? Or is it more like a game?
I don't have much experience with building apps, though I have some experience with developing/coding in general. Also, what language and IDE are you using?
~~ Might be back? ~~

It's kind of a product management app. The owner wants to use it to keep some products stored, to know when he has to collect his money and where he needs to do it (multiple stores). It is nothing really "amazing",  the kind of typical management app.  I am using Java with Android Studio.  It is not for a company, it is more like to someone with money who is intending to start  a little business.

Yes, but it is nothing big, simple app.

A couple of months programming in Java. I have made some desktop software for management and that kind of stuff (as i said, nothing commercial). I took a course and it was part of it.

Well as long as you know what your customer needs and what systems he has in place already your off to a pretty good start.
You could add asset management features to the app that scans barcodes on his products and sends auto updates his database.
I personally would make it as barebones and simple as possible to start that way as he expands he can contract you for more features and upgrades.
Main point is to stay in contact with the client and make sure they give you as much detail as possible on what they expect.
Once you have built a framework for him you can then change and add more features and market it to other small business's.

Let's hope you're ready for the challenge.

Given you're new to the development side of things, you need to consider proper functionality and stability for all Android devices, OSes, versions- old and new. Also ongoing tech support, Inclusive of all updates and future releases.
Wishing you all the very best.

Thank you very much for your advice. I find it to be very good and will be applying the "make it as barebones and simple as possible".
