[News] Doctors fail to notice a tumour 24 times! #1
A sixteen-year-old girl has died after doctors failed to notice she was suffering from a brain tumour despite assessing her more than twenty-four times in the last year of her life.

According to an inquest into Natasha Simmonds death, the British teen from Radstock in Somerset had reportedly been experiencing headaches, numbness in her limbs, back pains, vomiting and problems with her eyesight.

In early 2012, Simmonds was reportedly referred to paediatrician Colin Downie who dismissed her symptoms as migraines and treated her accordingly.

Up until her death in January 2013, Simmonds is alleged to have consulted a further four paediatricians, six GPs and three doctors, all of whom failed to correctly diagnose her tumour.

The teen's mother Sarah Simmonds claims one medical professional even refused Simmonds a crucial MRI scan because she was 'putting the symptoms on' and the procedure was reserved for 'life and death' situations, the UK's The Daily Mail reports.

‘We’ll never know what would have happened if she’d been given an MRI scan when we first asked for one.

‘At the very least she wouldn’t have died so suddenly and so frightened,' Sarah Simmonds told The Daily Mail.

The MRI scan of Natasha's brain that revealed a rare form of cancer, a disseminated oligodendroglioma-like leptomeningeal tumour, was only performed eight days before the teen died in January 2013.

Upon discovery of the tumour, Simmonds underwent two emergency surgeries at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.

She is said to have died from lung damage caused by the cancer.

This is honestly sad, they knew something was up yet doctors failed to notice anything. And now that she died they can't do anything? I'd literally want anyone who was involved in it to be fired and retrained. Especially after they were refused an MRI scan which could have changed everything. I would say its more than a 'migraine' if it keeps coming back and keeps having all these symptoms with it.

That's... really really bad.
The fact that the girl had a prominent underlying medical condition and all those times doctors failed to notice.
I feel so bad for the poor girl.

This is nothing if not proof that doctors need more training before they're aloud to work is hospitals.

I would be pissed as a parent, and guilty as the doctors.

Can't get too mad though. Doctors save so many lives and do the unimaginable sometimes. Mistakes are bound to happen.

This is true, they do save a lot of lives. You'd just feel really bad that they did this much of an error though.

This really pisses me off, I have known people that have had to deal with tumours and they go through immense pain.
The doctors need to get their shit together.

I think the Doctors should be held responsible for this. How on earth can you fail to notice a tumour in someone's brain 24 times.
I find it quite astonishing that the Doctors failed to save a youngsters life.
