Newer generations, banning used games? #1
I've heard this going around a lot. Apparently with the PS4 and Xbox 720 (or whatever they will be called) might not allow the use of used/borrowed games and I believe for the 720 they said something about needed internet access all the time?

I'll be really disappointed if they make this move. I like buying used games for cheap because some are nearly perfect condition. My family also borrows eachother games so it will be a huge bummer if we can't ><

This will really suck, I sort of understand the internet access thing but banning used games? That would be stupid. I do hope he don't need internet access wither though. But If I was to choose one not to be moved upon it would be the pre-owned games ban. I doubt they will? :/

Those are just rumors. I'd take them as grains of salt.

However I'd hate stuff like this what if they stop supporting that console wouldn't that mean the console would be made useless? People would have to be stupid to buy any console that forces you to be on the internet in order to use it. It would be such a huge waste of money.

I don't think they should ban used games because it would hurt the gaming market. People like buying used products for a lower price.

Exactly, I don't think it will happen. They will probably lose money if they do it because not only does it show their greed but people may not be able to afford full priced games. Also crime will probably rise as gaming is a huge industry.

The companies are too big and smart to make such a stupid decision. I highly doubt this will happen.

If this comes true, this will not be good. First of all, Gamestop stores will shutdown because think of it like this. Usually people go into gamestop to find a cheap game to play and have fun, very rarely do people go in to buy a straight up, sealed, $60 game. More people buy used than new so think of it like this...

Say a gamestop brings in $100,000 a month and that gamestop's sales are mostly used games. Because it's sales are mostly used games, let's take away %60 of that. So now we have $40,000 a month. Instead of $1,200,000 a year, now that gamestop is only making $480,000 a year. Now remember, this gamestop has to pay employees, Renting bills, Misc. bills, and has to pay for hundreds of video games and consoles. And because video games will have to be $60, because they're new, not many people will buy the games. Not a lot of people can just drop $60 like that to buy a game. Less people would go to gamestop because of not having enough funds, which would in return, having gamestops firing employees left and right, have employee protests due to wage cuts, and then finally, you will see gamestops start to shutdown across the globe due to insufficient funding.

That is my theory.

I deplore it; nevertheless, I believe this will be the reality in the future. Everything will be completely digitized that there will be no way to physically lend or sell something. Films, games, music, computer programs will all have to bought with systems like iTunes, Apple Store, Xbox Live, etc. This will become reality the moment companies decide to pull together.

Well since both consoles are trying to implement cloud gaming, this is a pretty pointless thread... As there probably won't be any more physical disks it'll just be a hard drive full of games, and I'm sure some geezer would come up with a way to copy your games to your friends hard drive.
