There was a very particular style of DDOS attack just now, it was mitigated.

[NI] Electric Guitar Synth Tutorial #1
Any requests should be posted here, I don't really read my PMs, if you want a tutorial from one of my songs let me know, I should still have the files which would make for a fast tutorial ^_^

Requests that I don't take:
- How do you make a song
- How do you drum [too freaking short, I'll just reply you it]
- How did you do that thing in that tutorial [odds are I skipped it because I assume you know how to use Ableton or are reading my prior guides]
- How did you make the bass in Epic Bass <my song> [I don't know, I lost the files]

Requests I take:
- How do you layer your music
- How do you make your music sound echo
- How do you make an 8-bit song? [I like to ^_^]
- How do you use equalizers.

So, to being I will be using the following plugins: NI Massive 1.4.0, Ableton Live 9, and maybe later Z3ta+, you can get these through "other methods" but I will not be posting them here.

In these tutorials I am not doing anything...... Broad, just simply placing a highlight on one thing, you may request tutorials from me if you with but you must remember that I'm learning too and may not be able to hit them all.

I will not be showing these tutorials in any other format other than Ableton on Windows, if the tutorial has [NI] at the title, it is useable with any program accepting VST's.

There are images and links to demo audio on my website, if Oni has issues with it being linked to my site I will remove it.

I am assuming you all have a basic knowledge of Ableton.

Tutorial Start:

Vocab:
I am not using real terms, just ones that "make sense"

VST - A plugin for your program to gain more functionality.

Modulator, Oscillator [I'll say "OST"], or Knobs: These are what is used to give the synth a certain "sound"

LFO - Low Frequency Oscillator: I use these as something to move the Oscillators automatically, these are often used in Dubstep.

Env - Hard to explain, pic provided.

KTR - Don't ask
FLT - Don't ask

Step 1: Oscillator 1

http://chillcraft.ca/Tutorial/Tutorials/.../Step1.wav

To make this simpler I advise placing one note for the whole bar, so you can hear it when you change it.

First we are going to edit the OSC 1, this is out starting sound, the saw wave.

Changing the Wt-Pos will change how the audio sounds, it will alternate [by default] from Square to Saw1, leaving it in the middle will mix the two, place it to where you like.

Changing the intensity will make the sound dull or heavy, depending on what you have it set to, I will not go too in depth about that until we use it.

AMP changes the volume, if you wish to copy me fully go ahead.

Step 2: Oscillator 2

http://chillcraft.ca/Tutorial/Tutorials/.../Step2.wav

So, we are going to pull up the second oscillator to add depth, you can edit it as you like and add as you please.

I advise you use a different Wt-Pos modifier so that it will start to sound like it has more depth.

They all have their different sounds and such, so just pick what you think mixes well ^_^/

Oscillator 3 is optional, you do not need it, in fact you don't need this one however I recommend you have at least two unless you are making a 8-bit, 8-bit is simply saw...... That is all o-o

SET AMP TO FULL, I forget to all the time, it doesn't end well ;-;

My Settings:

Step 3: Envelopes

http://chillcraft.ca/Tutorial/Tutorials/...ep%203.wav

Simple, I'm not going in depth on this in another I will, one thing that I will go into is that Env 4 is the master volume, this is used when you want it to release slow, the starting is when you play the sound, the middle is when the note is held down, the ending is when the note is released, top is full volume, bottom is no audio.

Attack - How long it takes for the note to start up.

Decay - Length of the middle, EG. full to low volume within 3 seconds

Release - How long it takes for the note to dissipate.

My settings, I'm using a "tap" setting, you would use quarter notes for this.

Step 4: Filters, YAY!

http://chillcraft.ca/Tutorial/Tutorials/...ep%204.wav

Now this is where the true messing with crap till it's what you want, I'm going to go over it a little, due to it's vastness I cannot hit everything however may do it in another tutorial.

I'm using Brauner Tube for this one.

Dry/Wet - The amount the effect is...... Whelp, effecting your sound o-o

Drive - I don't actually know, I think it's for how heavy it is, like more grit or something.

n.a. - Nothing

Step 5: Putting it together

No real tutorial with this, just an example song, I'll do a drum tutorial next?

Not fantastic but hey, I did it in 3 mins WOO!
