If you're literally just wanting to test plugins and not try to run a forum on it, 000webhost is perfect. It's free webhosting and comes with cPanel so you can just upload MyBB yourself and that way you can live modify core MyBB units whilst adding in your own plugins. It's a bit sluggish, but for a no-cash option it's your best bet.

I'm thinking either that or c9, which I already have an account on

Hadn't heard of c9 before, just looked it up and that's pretty cool. Either are viable options for ya.

Spoiler:
hardly ever come online now kek

I have absolutely no issue whatsoever with them. You're likely doing something wrong.

Idk, must be me then. I tried installing MySQL a handful of times and got fed up with it.

Xampp installs MySQL auto.

Don't edit core MyBB it's stupid. 000Webhost is also bad and breaks a lot of stuff.

Not the core core MyBB, but the general files required editing for testing plugins, lol. I didn't mean to go re-writing half of the /inc/ folder.

I've used 000webhost a few times for testing forums/forum features and it's served me well... most of the time. There was that one major fuckupp where their DB got dumped. kek

I never said you need to, you may want to.

But why would you want to?
