I've been using Linux all day(Mainly Kali). After getting use to that, I mainly like the Interface of it but at the same time, it's a pointless distro. Saying that because of the fact that you don't have a option to change the background which is utter ridiculous, but also the hacking tools are pointless in my opinion, as half of them don't work. Now saying that, Kali has a lot of bugs, crashed, freezes, etc.

Overall, I might go back onto windows!

That's the thing. You can not change the theme on Kali

I give not a thing about UI, it only have to be useful, for me it works virtual as a charm.

btw: use synaptic and search for "theme"

Is there a /user/share/themes directory? If so themes are possible. Just chmod 777 that directory and paste the themes there. Then open settings and change to your new theme. It should be on the list.

Well, Kali is/was never meant to be used as your primary work platform. It's meant to be run in a live environment and not even get installed. It's not built with stability in mind, it's for live penetration tests, not sitting down coding your next big shot. Every things has it's purpose, and Kali is simply not meant to be installed anywhere.

It looks like you haven't explored anything in Linux at all saying that you will probably go back to Windows.

Firstly, Kali is based on Debian and Debian is one of the most popular and stable Linux distros. On any Debian-based distro you can change whatever (anything, everything) you want, including theme and desktop background. I won't explain here how, because I want you to use search engines (duckduckgo, google...), all your answers are there, and yes you can literally change every thing in your Linux distro!

Secondly, Kali Linux is only one pentest distro, you can search for more if you like, or you can download any other general purpose distro and use it. On any Linux distro you can install almost every pentest tool that you found on Kali and similar distros.

And finally, I don't think those tools don't work, I think you haven't explored how they work and how to properly use them.

Unlike other pentest distros, Kali is meant to be installed on HDD. (short text about Kali: http://www.kali.org/ )

well what do you want to do ?!
I mean there are a lot of distros for different reasons, server side ,desktop ...etc
I don't suggest just giving up yet I personally have used more than 5 Linux distros till I found
one that is same as my taste , Fedora & Ubuntu
