I had know this about Windows without any external references, having seen parts of the source code up from 2000 to Windows 7

I most likely do, but the problem is that I can't disclose the source to anybody else due to an NDA. Source or specific information about the code included. If it weren't for such agreements enforced on people that have access, Windows would probably be open source by now..
