For places I've actually been to, so far it's been the highlands of Scotland. Perhaps not as impressive as mountains elsewhere, but you get a sense of thousands of years of history in an utterly peaceful place. The green mountain sides and heather everywhere is breathtaking. Go take a canoe out on a loch with mountains all around. The lochs are often crystal clear too. I'll go there again and again if I can.
