More than 198 million people now use an adblocker #1
Quote:No surprise here: adblocking is on the rise in 2015, having gone up by 41 percent since last year.

A report published by PageFair and Adobe shows that nearly 200 million people currently use adblocking tools, and it’s estimated that this will cost publishers more than $21.8 billion in lost revenue.

That’s just six percent of the global internet population, but it’s worth noting that their adblocking habits account for 14 percent of the global ad spend. The report adds that in 2016, it will cost publishers over $41 billion.

Whichever side of the debate you’re on, this report indicates that the practice is picking up. PageFair, whose main business is products that circumvent adblocking tools, notes that it’s gone up by 48 percent since 2014 in the US and by 82 percent in the UK.

While mobile devices accounted for 38 percent of all browsing in the second quarter of 2015, PageFair says that it served less than two percent of its alternative ads on phones and tablets.

As adblocking browser plug-ins and apps begin to show up on popular mobile platforms (Apple’s upcoming iOS 9 might allow third-party adblocking tools), we can expect that number to rise steadily in the months to come.

Of course, it’s worth bearing in mind that these numbers chalk out the growing market that PageFair serves.

Seriously, who likes ads?

I feel like those numbers are highly inflated considering the amount of browsers and devices people have. I personally can account for at least 10 of those numbers.

Well, its either that or the web goes back to using paid subscriptions on every thing. Personally I only use adblockers on sites that I don't want to support such as this site (bad joke?), a couple of shady news sites and youtube. Other than that I tend to keep it off as much as I can and click ads when they interest me.

People hate ads (and I do too), but a lot of sites need them to stay running. Accepting donations is a good alternative.

I userstand your point, using donations is a good alternative but then again not many people donate.

A lot of sites do need it, but I think it's the idea of everyone going "Well, it won't hurt if it's just me."

Or maybe people just don't care..

Given It's an extension/addon, whilst It blocks unwanted ads, as a result It can also consume more memory (ram) than It needs to.

For example, If you have 30 tabs open (I easily work with that amount and more), and each tab has ads to some degree, AdBlock will consume physical ram to block each and every ad In each and every open tab. Let's say It uses 40MB of ram (which I've personally experienced) to block ads per tab. Multiply that by 30, and there's 1.2GB of ram being consumed simply by an extension.

Don't get me wrong, It does serve It's purpose well, but what's gained In one aspect, Is lost In another.

They mention uBlock Is quote: "Easy on CPU and memory". What's their definition of easy?

There's no documentation on how and why It's light on system resources, hence until I put It to the test, their words mean nothing to me.
