They clearly wanted tighter control over the physical quality of the products they ship with Windows Phone.

They want control of their product so they don't have to spend as much money.

Shut the fuck up, everyone. Microsoft aren't stupid. They employ thousands of people and spend millions on technical and financial analysis. Before whacking down $8,000,000,000 to buy a company, they would've done their research and made sure that what they gained from that expenditure (IE, less competition) was worth the outlay.

Nokia are a big supplier of the Windows Mobile OS.
They might do goods things with Nokia, I'd love to see what they release in future.

Nokia are putting out some great products at the moment.

My tech blogging website is getting a Lumia 1020 (The one with a 46mp camera...) for two weeks as review hardware.
