It's a lot better, flat design is generally border free, so removing them completely would make it more flat. Also, the logo and the icons aren't flat enough :3

I could just flatten and fit the logo and icons into the new style? It's not too much work.

Looking good, but have you thought about optimizing the code? I mean it runs fine for me and I am not expert, but I would go for optimization rather than a new theme.

Generally optimization of CSS doesn't have too much of an impact, as the code is quite lightweight anyway.

I personally hate flat themes, especially on forums, not to mention how overused it is. I think if you do it you should add it as a seperate theme so people who prefer the current theme don't get eye-raped.
